Do I need structured cabling if I just want better WiFi?
Not always essential, but a WiFi access point connected by cable performs far better than one connected via another WiFi hop (a repeater). If the space allows it, structured cabling gives the best long-term result.
What's a rack, and do I need one at home?
A rack is the cabinet where network equipment (router, switches, patch panel) is gathered. A home doesn't always need an industrial-sized rack — sometimes a well-organised compact cabinet or box is enough, depending on how many points the installation has.
Why Ubiquiti instead of any high-end router?
Ubiquiti lets us design the network around distributed access points that behave as a single WiFi network, with centralised management. However powerful a single router is, it's still one transmission point — it doesn't handle a large home or one with obstacles as well.
I have a holiday rental — what kind of network suits it best?
For holiday rentals we usually recommend a guest WiFi network kept separate from the management network (cameras, smart locks), with coverage designed so no guest is left without signal in any room.
